research focus

In the framework of the MPQ-KSU-LMU Collaboration, researchers in Munich and Riyadh, directed by Prof. Ferenc Krausz and Prof. Abdallah Azzeer, are jointly pursuing the development of revolutionary ultrafast (femtosecond) laser technology, which will dramatically outperform current technology and open a new chapter in ultrafast photonics and for its applications. The new technology will constitute the cornerstone of the scientific infrastructure of the King Abdullah Research Center and Graduate School in Photonics (KAP), making it unparalleled on a world-wide scale. In close cooperation with the King-Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology (KAIN), it will offer unique research opportunities in exploring microscopic processes governed by the motion of electrons. Insight into these phenomena affords promise for exploring the ultimate frontiers of modern electronics along with ways of approaching them as well as the fundamental origin of life-threatening diseases, such as cancer or Alzheimer’s disease, on the molecular scale.
